    Many people do not know about the flat iron steak, besides being a great tasting and popular steak that is consumed nationally. The flat iron steak was originally discovered by two universities, with one being at the University of Florida and the other being the University of Nebraska. The discovery was made when the universities were actually studying undervalued cuts of beef. One thing that these two universities did not expect to uncover, was the flat iron steak. The flat iron steak was revealed to not only be great tasting, but also has shown that the flat iron steak meat is the second most tender meat that you can cut from a cow.


No one really knows where the name flat iron steak originated from. To some degree the original cut of the meat from the cow can resemble a old fashioned flat iron. However, people cannot agree that this is where the popular steaks name really originated from.
Over the years, more and more restaurants have made room on their menus for the flat iron steak. The popular Wagyu species of cows that can be found in Japan, have become ways for people to buy flat iron steaks that are affordable. Since flat iron steaks are so rich in flavor and are a highly rated steak, they can become very pricey.
Most chefs and experienced steak cookers will always say to be sure to marinate your flat iron steak well before cooking it. Flat iron steaks are great for including as a part of the main dish, fajitas and burritos, as well as being cut in strips for fresh salads. If you are making small chunks of flat iron steak, you can grill them on a skewer, put them into a stir fry meal, as well as sauté them. For regular flat iron steaks they can be cooked by grilling, pan-frying and even broiling them.
Despite that we do not know of where the name flat iron steak does come from, we do know that it provides a wonderful taste. Flat iron steaks can be cooked in a variety of ways whether it is in large pieces or small chunks.
