Calahonda
If you wish to rent a holiday apartment or villa you could do far worse than rent one in Calahonda on the Costa Del Sol, Spain. The resort nestles neatly between Fueringerola and Marbella.
The modern urbanisation of Calahonda flows from the coast to the undulating hills 300 metres above sea level. The height allows unrivalled panoramic views of the surrounding countryside running down to the sea and along the coast to Gibraltar and even Africa.

Merging with the many old buildings are selections of commercial centres to choose from including Centro Commercial Calahonda near Los Jarales campsite and El Zoco offering a wide choice of supermarkets, tourist shops, banks… in fact everything you need to survive without having to travel anywhere else.
Calahonda has a fort house reached by Calle Conde de Jordana. The fort is now known as El Campanario (first turn on the right towards Rattan Tom’s Furniture at the end of Centro Commercial Calahonda). It has previously been a monastery, a local police-station, prison, restaurant and nightclub and the main building of a major farm. It is claimed that it has even been a brothel in its past.
El Campanario dates back to the end of the 15th century. It is said that the building that now houses the church was built back in 1575. The rest of the horse-shoe-shaped building was built a few hundred years later. The fort house had and still has very thick walls and small openings for the use of defenders through which arrows were shot.
There is lots to do and see in the area for entertaining the whole family. For example enjoy spending time at one of the local water parks at Fuengirola or Torremolinos. Enjoy the rides at Tivoli World theme park in Benalmadena, Fuengirola zoo or have an adventure at Selwo Wildlife Park near Marbella.
If you are into golf then Spain has the second highest density of golf courses in the whole of Europe and the Costa Del is the Spanish region’s capital, Calahonda is in a prime location. The region became popular for golf back in the 1980’s and the 80’s and 90’s saw the development of 17 new courses added to the portfolio of 30 existing courses.
For a gentle day out stroll around neary by Marbella or the scenic port of Puerto Banus and mix with the rich and famous and dream of owning one of the large boats, shop at the exclusive boutiques, sit at the pavement cafés and watch the world go by.

Casares
What with the current world financial climate consumers are looking for a good summer holiday at affordable prices. Being only two and a half hours away from the United Kingdom, Spain has the edge. We recommend holidaying in Andalucia as an attractive region, and in particular in the area known as the Costa del Sol.
The Costa Del Sol also known by many as the Costa Del Golf due to the abundance of golf courses which means lots of green spaces in the region. The Costa Del Sol is some 154 km long and stretches from 54 km to the east of Malaga to the Cadiz province in the west. Weather wise the area has an average of 11-12 hours of sunshine in the summer with the average temperature being 31-33 degrees centigrade with little or no rainfall.
For a choice of apartments in Casares, we can recommend holidaying at Las Palmeras de Calahonda, which is a newly built apartment complex just 25 minutes from Malaga International Airport with Gibraltar International Airport being only one hour away, even less if you take the toll road! Calahonda is set against a picturesque backdrop of mountains, pretty undulating hills and scenic valleys which meet the jewelled Mediterranean Sea.
The complex is designed neatly as small communities and at the heart of which each has its swimming pool. Additionally most also have children’s pools. The apartments have 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. And sleep 4 to 6 persons.
The complex is just 1 minute by car from the sea for those taking the easy way or a gentle 10 minute stroll. There is a taxi rank serving the area at the bottom of the hill if you do not wish to walk back! There is a lovely beach bar on the beach, Chiringuto Beach Bar and a further La Perla just a little further. Both have excellent cuisine. Next to La Perla is a historical salt tower. There are lovely cacttii around it and together with bench seats make an idyllic place for panoramic photographs to remind you of sunny days.
For an even greater selection of restaurants visit Puerto Duquesa just 5 minutes from Casares Del Sol. Duquesa is a small port with a cosmopolitan feel ready to be explored by visitors. Here you will find restaurants serving everything from Spanish, Chinese meals, Mexican to traditional Italiandishes . Sit in the pavement cafés to idle away a time and watch the world go buy. There is a nightclub in the port for the more adventurous.
Duquesa Marina is still a working port and is used by both pleasure craft and the local fishermen, who can be seen landing their catch most days. For those of you who want to take to the water to entertain yourself there are a number of options available in the way of boat rides, dolphin spotting trips out to sea, fishing trips etc., along with a fully RYA qualified sea school providing courses for both sailing and motor vessels.
Apart from the hostelries there are number of excellent shops, boutiques, jewellers etc. as well as a gym, hairdressers, bank, estate agents and leisure activity providers, making Puerto de la Duquesa a village in its own right. Choosing one of the many apartments in Casares is an excellent choice.

All apartments also have large terraces and some even have under floor heating in the main bedroom ready for the winter months.
Situated near to Las Palmeras de Calahonda on Calle Don Jose de Orbaneja are the local amenities including a supermarket, bars and a couple of good restaurants and children’s playground to keep the little ones entertained. At the bottom of the hill you will find a street of bars and restaurants which are truly international, ranging from English Fish and Chips, to Chinese and typical Spanish. Calahonda has indeed a lot to offer everyone who visits the area.
Calahonda has its own Marina to explore- Cabopino, situated just 5 minutes drive along the coast road. Cabopino is undoubtedly the Coast’s best kept secret to many visitors and has a host of fine bars & restaurants as well as a really superb sandy beach to relax on and absorb the rays. For other beaches visit the nearby beach at La Cala, Marbella and the stretch around Puerto Banus.
